The TikTok Algorithm Was Right: Why You Need to Hear Out in Front

Headline: Musically Summoned: Why Out in Front is the Pop Punk Revival You’ve Been Waiting For

Have you ever had a band pop up on your TikTok feed so many times that you finally just stop scrolling and say, "Okay, universe, I’m listening"?

That’s exactly what happened to our very own Matt Allen recently. After a few nights of what he thought was just standard late-night doom scrolling, he realized he wasn't just looking at clips—he was being musically summoned. And honestly? We’re all glad he answered the call.

This week on the ZHZ Podcast Spotlight, we’re diving into a band that is absolutely red-lining the energy meter: Out in Front.

The Vibe

If you’re a fan of powerhouse female vocals, early 2000s pop punk, or that modern Paramore-style punch, Out in Front is going to land right in your sweet spot. Built around the massive voice of Maddie Renner, this LA-based crew is making music that feels vulnerable, anthemic, and gritty all at once.

The Origin Story

Every great band needs a "how we met" story, and this one is a classic. Maddie moved from Iowa to Nashville to study at Belmont before eventually packing her guitar and heading to LA. To keep the lights on, she took a job coaching tennis at a country club.

That’s where she met Isaiah Volk—a former D1 tennis player and pilot who just happened to be a drummer looking for a singer. They added bass player Ryan Wagner (another coworker and teammate), started jamming in a garage, and Out in Front was born. Talk about a "match" made in heaven (sorry, had to do it).

Why They’re Blowing Up

It’s not just the pink guitar aesthetic or the tight rhythm section—it’s the fact that they actually deliver. Their latest single, "In Another Life" (dropped January 2026), is the perfect entry point. It’s got that big, emotional delivery that makes you want to scream along in your car or at a crowded show.

Matt’s been watching their tour clips from Denver to Boston, and the consensus is clear: they sound even better live.

Get Them in Your Rotation

Don't wait for the algorithm to force them on you. Go check out Out in Front on Spotify, Apple Music, or catch their high-energy clips on TikTok and Instagram. We’ve got all their links in the description of the latest Spotlight episode.

Support independent music and give these guys a spin. You won’t regret it.
